Cycleworks

Post by Duner Tor »

An ex-rider friend of mine sent me this mug. Anybody remember Leo at Cycleworks? He did some work on my R65 in the early 80s, but that's the last I've heard, except that he may be in WV.

Leo lives north of McDowell in Highland County. His son did some cabinet work for me a few years ago and said Leo has a couple early '80s Beemers with zero miles on them in his garage.

Thanks, Chuck. BTW, you may know Nick Whitmer, who sent me the mug.

Hi all -

Fate and a broken clutch actuation lever brought me (after a rather long bike-pushing hike from Rt 29) to Anton's shop this morning. Wound up having a nice visit and subsequently joined this group. I too recall Leo and Cycleworks fondly. My first BMW was a 1967 R50, bought it in the mid-70's and Leo did a lot of the service on it for me. I rode that bike everywhere for several years. Plus, I used to hang out there on weekends (I was a UVA student at the time). Leo was amusing and a character, always had a pistol in a holster on his hip. Glad to hear he's still around, I remember him moving first to the Stanardsville area, then further west.

Don't think I will be out at the breakfast tomorrow, but will one day. I ride an older R1100R, a nice machine. Have had many other beemers over the years, mostly old K-bikes.
