R1100 transmission repairs
Somewhat commercial plug here... as Chuck posted on the email update, I have been working with a mechanic to rebuild the sometimes problematic 5-speed Oilhead transmissions. It seems that the work will run around $700, but the depends on the amount of damage. If you have a tranny that's bad, let me know (and no I don't get a cut of his repair fee)
. I can, however, remove and reinstall it for you.

Re: R1100 transmission repairs
Hi,
I have a 2000 R1100R who's tranny is shot with only 12,000 miles on 'er. It had always been a bit of a "clunky" shifter. Now it makes a horrible screeching noise whenever the engine is running and the engine revs a bit. Need to figure out whether I should just throw on a new tranny, or take it out and get it worked on. Thoughts?

Wow, what an old post. I've been repairing these myself for years now.
Screech? Unusual, but in general I think repairing is better than replacing, but it is usually more expensive. If you're local, I'd suggest you pull it out and bring it by.
